Golden Archival Spray Varnish provides a protective finish layer for fine artwork created with a wide variety of mediums, including acrylics, oils, pastels, watercolours, temperas, and inkjet prints.

It offers excellent dirt, dust, and moisture-resistance, and is removable for conservation purposes. It contains ultraviolet light filters and stabilizers (UVLS) to provide archival protection and inhibit light damage. The adjustable fan spray tip allows for precise application with reduced overspray.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

GOLDEN Archival Varnish can be used over a wide variety of paints, including acrylic, oil, alkyd, egg tempera, watercolour, and casein.  Formulated with 100% acrylic resins, it produces a flexible, clear film to protect against environmental concerns such as ultraviolet light, dirt and moisture. The coating is removable and resistant to yellowing.

GOLDEN Archival Varnish Mineral Spirit Acrylic Aerosol w/UVLS is made by reducing standard GOLDEN MSA Varnish (w/UVLS) with fast drying acetone and a propellant to create an easy to use spray product. Properly applied, it can create a durable, even film.

GOLDEN Archival Varnish should adhere well to most non-oily surfaces. It may exhibit poor adhesion to fresh oil paint films or if residual surfactants are present with water-based paint films. It has excellent wet and dry state clarity. Over time, the MSA film resists changes in appearance and remains flexible. The UV protection is achieved from a blend of Hindered Amine Light Stabilizer (HALS) and an ultraviolet absorber (substituted benzotrizole compound). The unique adjustable fan spray tip allows precise application with reduced overspray. Coverage is approximately 30-35 sq. ft. per can.

Applications:

Great for Oil painting final varnish, allow at least 6-12 months for the paint film to cure before application. Heavy layers of varnish on fresh oil paint can impede the oxidation process and result in failure. However a light layer may be applied as a temporary varnish when the oil paint film is touch-dry.

Can be used for Acrylic painting final varnish; best to allow 3 to 6 months on impasto painting to completely cure.

Can be used to seal a watercolor if you do not want to use glass or even a pastel painting after you used a workable fixative first then apply the Archival MSAV Varnish Spray. Light layers and let dry between layers. It will change the look and feel of the dry mediums; Best to test first.
